Tips to Bring Kent Island into Your Home from a Local Interior Design Student & Intern

Maddie Little

I'm Maddie, an interior design student and intern among many other things involving real estate! I'm excited to share some tips on how to make your home truly yours while incorporating Kent Island and supporting local businesses! Here are some ideas for different areas of your home:

Living Rooms

  • Throw Pillows and Blankets: Add texture and color with a mix of throw pillows and blankets. Check out The Gifted Crab in Chester for their cozy, white knitted Bay Bridge Blanket!

  • Gallery Wall: Create a gallery wall with artwork, photos, and mirrors that reflect your personality. Cult Classic has some amazing pieces by local artists that can make your wall pop!

  • Lighting: Use a combination of floor lamps, table lamps, and candles to set a warm, inviting atmosphere. DejaBlu is a fantastic spot for finding vintage and unique lighting options.

  • Coffee Table: Display books, decorative trays, and sentimental items to create a focal point. Ophiuroidea, or "The O," at the Kent Narrows offers great coffee table books and unique pieces for your space!

Offices

  • Built-In Shelves: Arrange books and decorative items in a way that tells a story. For inspiration and unique Kent Island pieces, check out Half Full Gift Boutique in Stevensville, The Gifted Crab, or "The O."

Bedrooms

  • Nightstands: Personalize with lamps, books, and a few decorative items. DejaBlu and Mar-Mac Upholstery offer great options for stylish and functional pieces.

  • Artwork and Photos: Incorporate framed art and personal photos to make the space feel more intimate. The Gifted Crab offers custom framing and signs that can add a personal touch to your decor.
